I have been fighting a head and chest cold all weekend and tried to make it through work today, while I did make to the end of the work, it was losing battle from the time that I woke up. In retrospect, I should have just called in sick today and rested, but no rest for the wary! I did get a bunch of big things done today, like negotiating with my principal the final placement of my new CAD lab for next year and getting a whole new unit written. My only concern with the CAD lab project is that they find enough funding to purchase everything this summer and not have to wait until later in the school year when others can get their hands on my funding. So I have already put in for my substitute for tomorrow and I am heading off to take some cough medication.

I spent about an hour and half blowing all of the leaves out of my backyard again this afternoon with the dog and kidlet playing around the yard. As an adult and homeowner, I find this activity quite enjoyable and a very far cry from the experience I remember as a child of spending a whole day with a rake helping the family remove the leaves from my parents backyard. Granted my backyard is roughly a quarter the size of the one I spent many childhood days running around. I think it is the fact that it is my little stake in the world, my castle! And dammit the grass is greener on my side of the fence... or that may just be the crabb grass growing in... Anyways, I love watching the kidlet and the dog running through the pile of leaves that is bigge than both off them, running and jumping into the middle or picking my son up and dropping him chin deep into the middle of the pile. These are the things I will never forget as I grow old and the time about two weeks ago when the floor drain backed up. They say we always become parents, I say if this what my parents felt like when I was growing up, so be it!

This past week my school district brought in Dr. Adolph Brown major player on the motivational speaking circuit. He claims to be able to reach any audience and incorporate the goals and objectives of the organization. For my district, he was brought into to help change the culture in our school to a more positive environment for both students and staff. Dr. Brown used a very flashy and kind of hokey way to get the message across. While I personally didn’t care for the flashiness of it, I am very curious to see if he reached the students or not. I think that they message he was trying to convey were all good and mostly well received. He talked about self-esteem, respect and personal values.
